Paper and material selection for pop-up books is a critical part of both the visual presentation and the mechanical performance of the final product. We will carefully evaluated each project based on the book’s format, size, illustration style, page count, and the complexity of the pop-up structures and give you the best advice. Our goal is to ensure the book not only looks vibrant and professional, but also functions smoothly and withstands repeated use.
For self-cover pop-up board books, the cover is made from the same material as the interior pages, typically using two laminated sheets of C1S paper to create a durable, integrated structure. For hardcover pop-up board books, we use a rigid 3mm gray board mounted with 157gsm coated paper, delivering enhanced strength, stability, and a more premium appearance.
The interior pages, are usually produced by laminating multiple sheets of C1S paper, most commonly 250gsm, 300gsm, or 350gsm. Depending on the pop-up design and mechanical requirements, two or more sheets may be combined to achieve the necessary thickness, stiffness, and durability. If using C2S paper, we recommend heavier weights between 250gsm and 350gsm, while uncoated paper should be 200gsm or thicker for adequate support.
Simple pop-up elements can be made from the same or thicker paper as the pages, whereas more intricate mechanisms are best produced using thinner paper laminated onto the main sheets, ensuring smoother movement, reduced stress on folds, and long-lasting performance.
