Jigsaw puzzles are typically made from 1–3mm thick paperboard and constructed in two or three layers: a printed top layer for artwork, a middle core layer for strength and stability, and a back layer that can be either plain or printed depending on design needs. This multi-layer structure ensures durability, precise die-cutting, and a satisfying fit between puzzle pieces.
For the top layer, we recommend 157gsm C2S or 250gsm C1S paperboard to achieve sharp detail and vibrant color reproduction. Surface finishes such as glossy or matte lamination not only enhance visual appeal but also protect against scratches and wear. Additional upgrades like soft-touch lamination, varnish, foil stamping, linen texture, and holographic effects can further elevate the look and uniqueness of the puzzle.
For the core layer, we offer several material options to match different quality levels and budgets. Greyboard is the most commonly used due to its strength, rigidity, and cost-effectiveness, making it ideal for mass-market and children’s puzzles. A white-faced greyboard improves brightness and print consistency. Blue board offers superior flatness, density, and durability, making it a preferred choice for adult and premium puzzles with a high-end feel. White board, on the other hand, provides a cleaner surface, reduced dust, and a firmer assembling experience, making it especially suitable for kids’ puzzles and puzzle books.
We also offer custom-colored boards such as black, kraft, orange, and red for a distinctive appearance. These are perfect for limited editions, themed designs, or branded collections, enhancing both visual appeal and collectability. FSC-certified paperboard is also available for environmentally responsible production.
